To get to know at close hand, on foot, the main inhabited centers (castelletti or little castles) that make up the town which once a year comes alive on the occasion of the "Mangialonga" celebrating the excellence of local products and typical dishes.

LAYOUT AND CHARACTERISTICS

The National Park of the Casentino Forests and the Ecomuseum of Casentino - UCMC join to promote and increase awareness of the cultural heritage of the town of Badia Prataglia, starting with its history and the past experience of its inhabitants.

Memory, the desire to rediscover and embrace aspects and values of the past helps to strengthen one’s sense of belonging, but this is not our ultimate goal. The future of the community is the real focus of the Ecomuseum project, a future in which purposeful attitudes towards the preservation of our heritage are cultivated with the desire to interpret it and pass it on to future generations increasing its value.

A process through which one can regain trust, enthusiasm and community spirit that could also possibly lead to a social-economic revival. Among the central themes to concentrate on: traditional rituals that are still being practiced, local products and manual skills, also being evaluated and analyzed in the project "Atlas of the immaterial Heritage of Casentino and Valtiberina". The first stage of the valorization project saw the creation of a path connecting the various inhabited centers (castelletti) thus offering a concrete opportunity for interaction and exchange with the inhabitants, their traditions, their memories but also with their present-day lives and aspirations. The itinerary includes some descriptive panels of a thematic nature, which provide support for your visit. Characteristics of the route: Urban trekking > Cultural/ naturalistic; Length: 5 km; Difficulty level: Tourist (easy); Time: 2hr 30min.

Below are the main localities on the itinerary with related themes: VETRICETA I "Fochi" (The Fires); IL PONTIN DEL DIAVOLO Il Benucci e il diavolo (Benucci and the devil); FIUME D’ISOLA Un maestro d’ascia (A master woodworker); SASSOPIANO Leggende nella foresta (Legends in the forest), LA MAESTÀ Il turismo a Badia (Tourism in Badia), LA CASINA I Maestri del legno (The Masters of wood), LA CASA I canti itineranti (Traveling folk songs), CASA CELINO Il Trecciolo (plaits made of wheat straw sewn together used to fan flames or to make carrier bags), CASA ROSSI La vecchia piazza (The old square).

SPECIAL FEATURES AND CURIOSITIES

The following is one of the many stories that you will learn about along the way. The bridge, locally called "Il pontin del Diavolo" (The Devils bridge), located between the ‘castelletti’ of Vetriceta Alta and Fiume d'Isola, is connected to a particular story whose main character is Benucci, a heavy drinker who lived in Fiume d'Isola. One night while he was passing over the bridge, swearing, as he usually did, he met the devil who took hold of him and lifted him up off the ground. Only following Our Lady’s intervention, to whom he had begged forgiveness, did he manage to escape. Benucci stopped swearing from that day on (Source Lamberto Ciampelli).
